Spacecorpse is a Dystopian Cyber Punk Death Metal band from Denver, Colorado. While all of the four members are attractive enough to enjoy intercourse with, guitarist and band founder, Ricky Shine is probably the hottest. He stands at 6’1″, has a lean muscular body, a spray of California blonde hair and a dashing smile. When you combine those alluring qualities with the size of his penis, you’re left with no choice but to refer to him as Hollywood 7. I recently caught up with this hot young man as he was enjoying alcoholic beverages with the rest of the band. The following interview came about prior to their sudden and bloody death.
THE DEMISE OF SPACECORPSE
SPACECORPSE
FINAL INTERVIEW
How did you decide to refer to your music as Dystopian Cyber Punk Death Metal?
Reece: Up until our single Psychesynthesis, we were basically just Death Metal. That single helped us find a new unique sound that is very inspired by sci fi horror themes! We also just thought it sounded badass.
Hollywood 7: The more we integrated electronic sounds into our music, it birthed a more futuristic sounding version of our original vision.
Andrew: Yeah, Cyber Punk might be a bit of a stretch haha, but it sounds cool.
Reece: Dystopian Cyber Death is more accurate haha.
Have you seen any other members of this band naked?
Vinnie: Nay
Andrew: Yeah we actually practice naked. Reece has a little baby dick. Just kidding. It’s huge.
Reece: Big time baby dick. We actually all have tiny dicks. Only way to join the band.
Andrew: Yeah, his is just the biggest.
Hollywood 7: I love having a baby dick.
How exactly did this band come together?
Hollywood 7: Reece and I started writing music together in early 2020, we we’re both playing in other bands at the time. Eventually it became our primary project, shortly after Andrew hopped on drums and joined on writing our 2nd EP. We intended for the band to be a studio project, but it was way too fun playing together to not do shows. Within the last year Vinnie hopped on bass and we finally started playing live.
You all have known each other for a long time?
Hollywood 7: We’ve been in previous projects together and most of us have known each other since high school, so playing together came very naturally. We all have a background in metal but also span a wide range of influences. I think we have also all been obsessed with space since kids so the idea of futuristic space death metal made alot of sense.
The show at lost lake that I saw you play… was that your first show?
Vinnie: No, that was our third show. Our first show was at Trailside in April, then we got to open for a national package last minute at the Roxy in May. Then Lost Lake!
Who was the national package?
Vinnie: Arkaik, First Fragment, A Wake in Providence, and Greylotus.
Most acceptable.
Vinnie: We’ve had a busy summer. That package date was also the release date for our newest single, then we played Trailside again two weeks later, in June, then Moe’s in July. We also participated in the UMS. The stretch between August and September has been mostly quiet in preparation for writing/recording our next EP, and getting ready for our headlining show at the Roxy in October!
The show I saw was very polished. What do you attribute that to?
Vinnie: My favorite shows to see are when bands can shine individually and together as a well-oiled machine. Playing music with these dudes has absolutely leveled me up. I think it’s a big part in that we are trying to be fresh with each set. Ricky is a huge asset with that, working to make each time we set foot on stage, feel like a completely different experience. The Lost Lake show, we knew we had to bring it with the headline spot, as well as with the other solid bands on that bill. Deciding to make it a mustache/Hawaiian shirt show just added to the unity of it, and gave it its own unique identity. One might play the same songs, but even in if they weren’t in a different order, you’d still be seeing a different show. We also mesh very well together on stage, and feel very complimentary to each other skill wise, and vibe.
Andrew: Yeah, I think we are all just very comfortable with each other and that helps us play well together. Reece and I have been in like five bands together and we used to jam with Ricky a lot back in the day. And Vinnie has just blended right in seamlessly. We also play to a click live so we are all able to be exactly on time with that and practice to the same set beforehand.
What other local bands has everyone been in?
Andrew: Ricky was in Lungburn for a few years, Vinnie in Among the Bodies. Reece and I were in Apotheon and currently Monumental Discharge Reece was also in Vale of Pnath and I played in Dissonance in Design for a bit. Right? Did I miss any?
Vinnie: Not Among the Bodies lol, She’s Buried Out Back.
Andrew: Oooh. Haha. Dang
Vinnie: Empires Erased,
Fatal Paradox, Defending The Pilot,
Of Sins and Sorrow, Left Looks Good,
Once Upon Atrocity (now known as Goathill Massacre) I did vocals in some. I did rhythm guitar in some. And my best work has been bass.
Andrew: It sure has
Vinnie: I bounced around a lot between 2008-2018. There’s more, but nothing else worth mentioning lol
Andrew: Ricky also had a sick electronic project called the Digital Connection.
Vinnie: Oh yeah! And it’s BADASS!
Reece: I was in Vale of Pnath for three years and did II and Accursed.
I’ve only heard of a couple of those.
Vinnie: Probably the ones that mattered the most haha
What’s bands do mortals tell you you sound like? And what bands do you WISH you sounded like?
Andrew: I’ve been told we sound like Born of Osiris and I’m kind of okay with that. I think I wish we sounded like the Faceless or the Zenith Passage haha
What do you think you bring to this scene that other bands don’t?
Vinnie: There’s no other band in the scene incorporating the horror, humor, electronic & sci-fi elements like we are.
Andrew: I think we bring a good blend of a lot of the extreme subgenres as well. There’s elements of Metalcore, Deathcore, Death Metal and some Slam which makes it more digestible for a broader range of listeners
Hollywood 7: With a little splash of some extraterrestrial synth juice
What are some of your favorite locals?
Vinnie: I’ve been a big fan of Angelic Desolation for years! When I was putting together our upcoming Halloween show, they were a band I knew I wanted to put on the bill! It’s Always Sunny in Tijuana,
I Am The Shotgun, Crown Magnetar, those dudes have been killing it! (as people and musicians) -and I would love to share the stage with them at some point! Honestly, having friends in bands like Torn Within, Lungburn, Among The Bodies, Gravedancer, to name only a few, has definitely been a driving force to really not just stand out among them, but to stand strong beside them! Proud to be a part of this growing and thriving Denver Metal scene. The camaraderie and healthily competitive feeling to push each other to work harder, feels good. Especially since each of those bands brings something different to the table.
What do you think the scene can do to improve itself? What would you enjoy seeing?
Vinnie: More creative lineups at shows. More things like Denver Deathfest.
What is the dream? How far do you want to go?
Hollywood 7: It’s definitely been discussed, I think we’ve been having so much fun with this band that we’ve just been going with the flow. We just finished writing on our third EP and will head into the studio shortly to record. It’s by far our heaviest and most dynamic material yet. We are far from being done with pushing the sonic boundaries for the style we’ve crafted. In the short term our goal is to continue establishing ourselves in the Denver scene, with hopes of supporting some of our favorite acts that come to town. There has been talk of some touring possibilities for the future, so I guess time will tell where this brings us. We are all pretty fuckin stoked on things right now and just having a lot of fun.
